The Ingmar Bergman Foundation

Founded when Ingmar Bergman donated his entire private archives to the Swedish Film Institute in 2002, the Ingmar Bergman Foundation collects and disseminates material relating to Bergman's works. The Foundation also administers performing rights for Bergman's scripts, organises Bergman-related events in Sweden and around the world, and manages the website, Ingmar Bergman Face to Face.

Ingmar Bergman's archives

The Foundation archives chiefly comprise Bergman's own manuscripts, reflecting his entire life's work as a filmmaker, theatre director and writer. They include scripts for the screen and stage, work books, correspondence and photographs. The archives are currently only accessible for research purposes, but are planned to be open to the general public from 2056 onwards. In conjunction with the Royal Swedish Library, digitalisation of the archives is currently under way. Their contents are already searchable via the Ingmar Bergman Face to Face website. In 2007, the archives were listed as part of UNESCO's "Memory of the World" programme.

The world's largest Ingmar Bergman website

Presented both in Swedish and English, Ingmar Bergman Face to Face is the world's leading and most extensive multimedia portal to Bergman's 65-year career. It provides documents and analysis relating to more than 300 works under the headings Film, Theatre, Writings, On Stage and Universe. Richly illustrated with more than 3,000 photographs and upwards of 100 film clips, the website is added to on a daily basis and updated with current events in the Bergman world.

Bergman on stage

Bergman also donated the performing rights for all his scripts to the Foundation. More than 100 productions have so far been staged around the world. The most popular work is Scenes from a Marriage, so far accounting for no fewer than 45 different productions.

Public events

In partnership with theatres, festivals and museums, etc., the Foundation organises exhibitions and other Bergman-related events both in Sweden and around the world.
