The ongoing São Paulo International Film Festival has a distinct Swedish feel this year with Swedish entries in the competition, a Swedish retrospective and a Swedish co-production forum. In total, more than 35 Swedish films are being screened at the festival, which runs until 5 November.

With five Swedish films in the competition: Burrowing (Man tänker sitt), The Eagle Hunter’s Son (Örnjägarens son), Almost Elvis (Karaokekungen), Metropia and The King of Ping Pong (Ping-pongkingen), and no fewer than 11 films in the Sweden Festival – Perspective section, visitors to one of Latin America’s biggest film festivals right now are gaining a good insight into Swedish film. A series of short films is also being shown under the heading Sweden Festival – Short Movies, with a special focus on one of Swedish film’s great hopes, Patrik Eklund, as well as a series of retrospective films comprising Remembering Sucksdorff, Introducing Ekman and A Tribute to Jan Troell.
Many Swedish directors and producers are attending the festival. Directors Teresa Fabik, Jens Jonsson, Petra Revenue, Rainer Hartleb, Tarik Saleh, Henrik Hellström, Patrik Eklund, Jörgen Bergmark and Fredrik Gertten are at the festival to discuss their films with the public. Sandra Harms (Breidablick Film), Erika Wasserman (Fasad), Mani Masserat-Agah (Jens Jonsson AB), Oskar Söderlund (GötaFilm) and Mattias J Skoglund (Pampas Produktion) are also attending to present new projects for potential co-production with Brazilian film companies. A raft of sales companies representing Swedish film are also at the festival to sell Swedish movies to Brazilian distributors.
In addition, the festival is organising master classes with Tarik Saleh & Martin Hultman (Metropia) and Tomas Alfredson (Let the Right One In/Låt den rätte komma in).
